Serviceability study for ES600 conducted by American University of Sharjah
The serviceability study includes loads versus deflection curves, crack widths and distributions at service and at ultimate loads.
Observations and test results:
The serviceability response of concrete beams reinforced with ES600 steel rebar were comparable with the response of concrete beams reinforced with B500B steel rebar under flexure for different sizes.
• In addition to flexural strength and ductility, both ES600 and B500B reinforced concrete beams met the serviceability requirements related to rigidity (deflection) and durability (crack widths).
• Concrete beams reinforced with 16-mm and 20-mm ES600 steel bars demonstrated up to 19.5% improvement in flexural capacity as compared to beams reinforced with B500B steel. This improvement is mainly due to the higher yield strength.
Conclusions
Based on the extensive results generated, it was concluded that ES600 reinforcing steel exhibits very comparable performance to B500B steel in terms of serviceability, flexural and compressive responses. Moreover, ES600 steel reinforcement enhances the flexural capacity of RC structures and can be very promising in structural applications as it has the potential in reducing the amount of steel, as an alternative to B500B steel.
